Victor LaValle Victor LaValle is an American author who was raised in the Flushing and Rosedale neighborhoods of Queens, New York. He is the author of a short-story collection, Slapboxing with Jesus and a novel, The Ecstatic. LaValle writes fiction primarily, though he has also written essays and book reviews for GQ, Essence Magazine, The Fader, and The Washington Post, among others. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in English and received his M.F.A. in Fiction from Columbia University. He has been a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He lives in Brooklyn and teaches writing at Columbia University. Victor LaValle reads in the Writers at Newark Reading Series with Salvatore Scibona on Tues., October 20, 2009, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Rutgers-Newark Paul Robeson Gallery.
