Hadas, Rachel
Rachel Hadas, Board of Governors Professor of
English, has taught at the Newark campus for many years. Honored by the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Academy-Institute of Arts & Letters, and the O.B. Hardison Award of the Folger Shakespeare Library, she is the author of over a dozen books of poetry, essays, and translations Greek and Latin, as well as of French and Modern Greek poetry. Her new book, The River of Forgetfulness (poems), is due out
in June 2006 from David Robert Books, and she is currently coediting an anthology of Greek poetry in translation from Homer to the present, to be published by Norton. Other books of hers include Laws (2004), Indelible (2001), and Halfway Down the Hall, New & Selected Poems(1998). Rachel Hadas was just named Scholar/Facilitator for 2007 for the New Jersey Council on the Humanities Literature and Medicine program. She has taught poetry writing at the Sewanee Writers Conference and the West Chester Poetry Conference, and has given countless readings.
